Most of her employed career has been in food retailing and in pharmaceutical industries, and she was also a scientist at the British Nutrition Foundation for 7 years. She has been a columnist for dietitian readers for more than 25 years, and features editor for Network Health Dietitians magazine (www.nhdmag.com) for nearly 10 years.

‘The SACN report on Carbohydrates : is it sweet or is it sour?’
In June 2014, the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN) released the long-awaited draft report on carbohydrates. There was considerable media and professional interest in their recommendations to lower targets for population intakes of free sugars to 5%, and to increase population intakes of fibre to 30g. The report also contains many other conclusions on the latest science on carbohydrates in the diet. This session presents both details and highlights from the 365 page main report, and considers how dietitians many be challenged in their role in communicating SACN recommendations.
